What is NordicForests.org?

NordicForests.org provides information and news about High Conservation Value Forests in Finland, Sweden and Norway which are currently not protected. It does so by presenting media, reports, statistics and maps about forests in general and concerning specific districts within those three countries. Some of the forest areas are still standing and some have recently been logged. By doing this, Nordicforests.org aims to present a comprehensive picture of realities facing those Fennoscandian forests. Many of these High Conservation Value Forests become consumer goods in countries such as Germany and UK, mostly in the form of paper. The aim is to make this information reach producers, buyers, NGOs and a general public who are concerned about these biologically and socially valuable forests.

The site’s main contributors are actively engaged in either forest research or Environmental NGOs in Fennoscandia. All the forests described on NordicForests.org have documented High Conservation Values.

NordicForests.org is a joint Taiga Rescue Network project realized and supported by several environmental organizations from all the Fennoscandic countries and the general boreal zone:
